Bridge deaths bring OSHA fines

www.sunherald.com

An OSHA investigation of a "preventable" construction accident on the Bay St. Louis Bridge has led to proposed fines of nearly $96,000 against four contractors.

Federal scrutiny of the June 14 accident brings penalties against Granite Archer Western and three companies hired to help build the replacement for the bridge Hurricane Katrina destroyed. Two workers died and seven were injured when the concrete column they were working inside collapsed into the bay.
