Meat processor to appeal OSHA fines

www.bizjournals.com

A Jacksonville meat processor has been cited for 16 safety and health violations and stands to be fined nearly $60,000 by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupation Safety and Health Administration.

Henry's Hickory House plans to appeal the proposed fines and has until Jan. 10 to do so, said Richard Hollis, the company's vice president of operations.

The agency issued four repeat violations and proposed $45,000 in fines after it said inspectors learned that the company didn't conduct necessary lockout and tagout procedures, which prevent machinery from running while being prepared, and didn't maintain OSHA records. The company was cited for the same reasons in 2005.
