Evans firm only roofer to ever win the safety award from OSHA.

According to the U.S. Labor Dept., roofing is the sixth most dangerous occupation in the country, and any time a roofing company takes steps to make the profession safer, it's seen as a good thing.So with that statement in mind, it's easy to understand the magnitude of the award the Elmira-based Charles F. Evans Co. received late last month.

The company is at 1421 College Ave., with a second location at 800 Canal St.The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration gave the company its Voluntary Protection Program award at a luncheon in Elmira.
