LICH, OSHA, Union Form Alliance for Emergency Training

www.brooklyneagle.com

A unique alliance has been formed between Long Island College Hospital (LICH) of Brooklyn, the Service Employees International Union Local 1199 and the United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to provide expert training to LICH staff. “When there is a mass casualty incident, everyone in the hospital functions as either a first responder or a first receiver, says Dr. Lewis Kohl, chairman of Emergency Medicine at LICH. “Whether hazardous substances or weapons of mass destruction are involved, we’re the people to whom the public turns when these incidents occur.”

The alliance includes safety and health training and education programs focusing on the use of personal protective equipment, respiratory protection and patient decontamination.
