54-Year-Old Power Plant Gains an OSHA Star

OSHA has certified PPL Martins Creek Power Plant as a Star site in its prestigious Voluntary Protection Programs. During a recent ceremony at the company's Bangor facility, Kevin Kilp, OSHA's acting area director in Allentown, Pa., presented the company with the VPP star flag.

"PPL Martins Creek Power Plant has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to employee safety and health," Kilp said. "The company has maintained an injury and illness rate below the industry average for three years." The PPL Martins facility, located in Lower Mount Bethel Township and built in 1954, is one of five fossil plants owned by PPL Inc. The facility has a generating capacity of approximately 1,750 megawatts, which supplies power to 1.7 million customers in central eastern Pennsylvania. The company has 176 employees.
