A local roofing contractor faces $117,000 in fines for hazards at a residential construction site in Norwich, Conn.
Alex General Construction Inc. has not yet responded to the May 16 citations, said Ted Fitzgerald, spokesman for the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which began an inspection of the site last November.The company has received four repeat citations totaling $85,000 for lack of fall protection, inadequate fall protection training for employees working on a 24-foot-high roof, improper extension ladder placement and placement of an aluminum extension ladder within 18 inches of an energized power cable.
An additional $32,000 in fines for serious citations have been proposed for lack of protection against falling objects, improperly erected ladders, lack of ladder safety training, use of damaged ladders and improper ladder use.
