The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration today announced that it has cited a linen supply company in Linden for multiple safety and health violations, six months after two workers died at the bottom of a waste water tank there.

OSHA is recommending more than $79,000 in fines against North East Linen for the combined violations.

Victor Diaz, 42, and Carlos Diaz, 41, who were not related, had on scant protective gear when they were overcome Dec. 1, by fumes while power-washing chemical buildup in the 20,000-gallon steel storage tank.

"North East Linen did not take the appropriate steps to train its employees about potential hazards and to ensure its employees did not enter the waste water tank, which led to this tragedy," said Robert Kulick, director of OSHA's office in Avenel.
