washington.bizjournals.com

Federal inspectors have cited nine violations and proposed $192,800 in fines for contractors working on the Berkman Plaza II parking garage. The garage collapsed last year and killed one worker, Willie Edwards III.

The site of the six-story garage, which was adjacent to the 23-story Berkman Plaza II residential tower on East Adams Street Downtown, has been under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration since.

Choate Construction Inc., the general contractor for the project, was cited for a willful violation that carries a $49,500 fine. Southern Pan Services Co., the concrete framework contractor, was cited for two willful violations with proposed fines totaling $125,000.
