Cal-OSHA: Don't Work Outside; Wear Respirators

www.news10.net

With smoke continuing to hang over much of the state from wildfires, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health advised employers and workers in Northern California Saturday to avoid extended work outside and to possibly wear particulate respirators to avoid the hazy polluted air.

"Employers and employees should follow the advice of the state Air Resources Board and local air quality management districts and avoid being outdoors to the extent they can," said Cal-OSHA Chief Len Welsh. "If workers are required to be outdoors, strenuous activity should be minimized."

The agency also advised those working outdoors, particularly in areas near fire activity, to wear disposable particulate respirators. The air-purifying masks help filter particles out of the air.
