Company agrees to pay $39,500 in OSHA fines

A Hattiesburg-based company whose three workers died in a trench collapse March 21 has agreed to pay the federal government $39,500 in penalties for safety violations, officials said Monday.Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration said American Air Specialists Inc. has agreed to pay the penalty fine for the four "serious" and one "willful" safety violations in the trench collapse.The penalty amount is nearly half of the $65,450 penalty fine OSHA had originally proposed in August.
