Access policies not enforced
www.itweb.co.za The Ponemon Institute and Aveksa have revealed the results of the 2008 National Survey on Access Governance, says Sarbanes-Oxley.
Findings gathered from a survey of almost 700 experienced IT practitioners show the majority believe employees have too much access to information assets that are not pertinent to their job function, and that access policies are not being regularly checked or enforced by their organisation.
These results suggest many businesses are facing significant business risks because of inconsistent approaches to access management across the enterprise.

Business strategy analyst Ross Dawson says companies need to take action to ensure their Web 2.0 strategies stay within corporate governance rules.
"Organisations such as Westpac and Lend Lease are establishing some governance frameworks, which will ensure people are able to use Web 2.0 tools and there are rules about staff policy, firewalls and security systems," Dawson says.
