July is the beginning of a new fiscal year for many nonprofits. Along with the joy for many of starting a year totally unsure of where some of their funding will come from for the next 12 months, they also have the added pleasure of closing out the prior year. This means preparing for audits and producing IRS Form 990. An audit can be intimidating to people newer to the field. But they are really just an opportunity for someone with specific training to review the organization's books and report that everything is being done well or point out areas where things can be done differently.
