White Papers for Continuity of Operations (COOP) and Continuity of Government (COG)
Capabilities for Continuity of Operations (COOP) and Emergency Response (ER) White Paper
Onset Technology METAmessage for Wireless solutions make vital corporate information — data from document
management programs, voicemail, SQL/ODBC databases, and CRM/ERP applications, email
attachments, network files, Web pages, and contact info — accessible and manageable on BlackBerry
handhelds. To deliver these benefits, METAmessage server software sits behind the firewall on a
Windows NT/2000 server where it connects to existing messaging and corporate information
systems such as a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), email server, Web and application servers, etc.
METAmessage functionality is transparent to the end user who uses client software on their
handheld. For specific information on what features are currently available for a particular handheld
or platform, please contact your Onset representative.
METAmessage is fully compatible with RIM’s Mobile Data Service.
In the event of a natural disaster or terrorist attack, network infrastructure such as the email server
and the BES may be lost, and communications via normal email systems will be unavailable.
However, it is just these circumstances in which handheld users require dependable communications
and immediate access to Continuity of Operations (COOP) plans, emergency procedures, contact
information and other vital data normally transmitted via email, Mobile Data Service, or other
channels.
METAmessage turns BlackBerry handhelds into emergency communication devices (unlike cell
phones, for which service often fails in emergency scenarios) by enabling effective PIN-to-PIN
communications. METAmessage also lets BlackBerry handhelds work as emergency document
repositories, storing vital documents on the handheld itself for immediate access regardless of the
status of the wireless network.
