Local and regional government agencies are responsible for storing and managing vast amounts of sensitive constituent data, from birth and marriage records to property documents to police files, and they’re responsible to abide by privacy-protection regulations and accountable to the voting public should anything compromise that data. At the County of San Diego Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk’s office, for example, real-estate appraisals alone comprise 6 million pages of records across five office sites.
