The Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) requires all federal agency heads to transmit to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) an annual agency report consisting of separate components prepared by the agency Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the Office of Inspector General (IG). A key provision of the Act also requires that the agency IG, or independent evaluators designated by the IG, perform an annual independent evaluation of the agency's information security program and practices.
