Managing Spiraling IT Costs with a Hybrid Messaging Architecture

Mirapoint

Today’s corporate e-mail platforms offer a broad and often convoluted slate of features and functionality. Leading platforms such as Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino boast a wealth of collaboration capabilities, mobility options, personal information management features, and next generation functionality such as Unified Messaging.
However, these capabilities come at a significant cost. These systems require robust hardware and costly server and user licenses. Teams of IT staff must be dedicated to the administration and maintenance of these platforms. Additionally, the scalability of these platforms is often limited due to processor and memory-hungry features. This creates an ongoing need for additional server deployments, leading to a complex and often unwieldy messaging infrastructure.
For some users, this cost is justifiable. For example, some executives and knowledge workers benefit from the functionality of leading corporate e-mail platforms. But for many employees the capabilities of corporate e-mail platforms often go unused.
