Key Issues around Endpoint Security: Guidance for the CSO

SkyRecon Systems

The flow of information, internally and externally, is the lifeblood of any organization. Without communication and the transfer of data, organizations are unable to connect to their ecosystems and generate value. At the same time, it is important to ensure that information and communications are secure. Until the latter part of the 20th century, there was little concern for anything but external security threats. Since the turn of the century, however, organizations have started to realize they need to address a much wider range of issues — not just external threats but also data compliance and regulation, IT weakness, application breaches, and data leakage.

With increasing use of laptops and other mobile devices in today's work environment, the need for an organization to protect its data and assets must be balanced with its need to operate and compete in an environment that is not always confined to the security of its four walls.

Mobile and ubiquitous endpoint devices, data traffic, mobile storage devices, and all other devices that enable the productivity of users must be integrated into a secure perimeter. In the ever-changing world of business, IT managers need light, agile, versatile, and effective centrally managed tools to implement IT security policies. IT managers must implement security controls wherever their system exchanges with the external world. Failure to do so exposes them to technical vulnerability and increases the risk and potential cost to the business.
