An Action Plan to Meet OMB Security Compliance Requirements

ThreatGuard

The Office of Management and Budget issued a memorandum to all Federal Agency Chief Information Officers, requiring the move to a standard configuration for all Microsoft Windows desktop systems by 1 February 2008. Agencies are requested to submit draft implementation plans by 1 May 2007. This white paper serves as a guideline to efficiently navigate a course from planning through final reporting and into on-going maintenance.

The Security Content Automation Program has been established by NIST to maintain the necessary security configurations in a standardized format. This format is the key to automating the process and removing the traditional ambiguities inherent in written checklists and proprietary solutions. Standardized content combined with compatible and capable tools will make agency-wide compliance management a reality.
