Most companies with large business service infrastructures have monitoring tools for their network and any additional silos. However, availability and performance of critical business services are still an issue. Customers and users are complaining despite silo-based tools reporting at 99.9% availability. So what's going on? It is system interdependencies, not individual component failures that are the source of most performance and availability issues.

Alive learns normal behavior for the various application components that comprise critical business services through sophisticated dynamic thresholding of appropriate metrics. Armed with a comprehensive understanding of normal behavior, Alive keeps track of abnormal (i.e. outside of dynamic threshold) events. When a problem occurs, such as application slowdown or component availability, Alive uses its Problem Fingerprinting technology to create a statistical model of the time-sequenced pattern of all abnormal events that led to the problem. Armed with these captured Problem Fingerprints, Alive monitors the application environment looking for patterns of abnormal events that statistically match existing Problem Fingerprints and generate Predictive Alerts. Teams can then respond and potentially prevent application problems. Lengthy, unproductive bridge calls are eliminated and the resulting recommended resolution is recorded.
